How does the fat reduction process work?
The CoolSculpting procedure distributes controlled cooling to the area of concern that precisely targets the fat cells underneath the skin without affecting the surface of the skin. The area of fat cells treated are “crystalized”, or frozen. When these fat cells are frozen, they will gradually die off, and your body’s natural processes will eliminate the dead fat cells, resulting in 20 % fat reduction to the treated area. These results are said to be long term because your body will never reproduce the fat cells that were treated.
How do I know if I am a good candidate?
The Coolsculpting procedure is not for everyone, which is why your health history will be carefully reviewed at consultation. Also, CoolSculpting is not a treatment for obesity or weight loss. The best candidate for CoolSculpting is someone who has specific areas of concern that have been difficult to address with diet and exercise.
What should I expect the procedure to feel like?
Once the applicator is carefully applied to the area of concern, you may feel a pulling or suctioning sensation. Suction is utilized to pull up the skin so the cooling can reach the subcutaneous fat layer. Once the cooling begins, you will feel an increasing intense cold for about 5-10 minutes that will eventually cause the area to go numb. After the cycle is complete, the Coolsculpting technician will massage the area for 2-3 minutes in order to warm the area and initiate blood flow. Many patients describe the massage as a tingling sensation, which is due to numbness of the skin. Generally, patients do very well with this procedure and can return to normal activities immediately following the appointment.
How long does the procedure take start to finish?
The length of the procedure can vary based upon the number of areas being treated and the customized recommendation from the provider, but cycles typically take around 35 minutes each. Also, we have two CoolSculpting machines which means 2 cycles can be performed simultaneously. This will all be discussed at consultation.
When will I start to see volume reduction?
The volume reduction timeline can vary per patient. Some patients will start to see changes as quickly as 3 weeks. However, the most dramatic results are experienced after about 2 months. Patients are encouraged to return for a 6-8 week follow up visit to monitor progress.
Why not liposuction instead?
During the consultation appointment, our doctors and nurses will first deem you a candidate for the CoolSculpting procedure. After examination, our providers will determine what procedure you will benefit greater from. Liposuction surgery is a one-time procedure that is more invasive, requires anesthesia and a longer recovery. Patients with multiple areas of concern may benefit more from liposuction because they will require more CoolSculpting treatments to obtain desired results. Our providers will review all customized options with you at consultation.
What should I expect with recovery?
Most patients are able to return to their normal daily activities, including exercise, immediately after their appointment. You may experience some slight swelling to the treated area as well as some residual numbness that will improve each day. Compression garments are recommended to help reduce swelling quicker.
What happens if I gain weight after the procedure?
Patients are encouraged to maintain a healthy lifestyle throughout the CoolSculpting process. Maintaining a healthy weight will improve your results greatly. All patients are weighed at the time of the procedure and at follow-up appointments to monitor these results. If you do gain weight, the area that was treated will always have a smaller number of fat cells compared to areas that were not treated. However, the remaining fat cells of that area still have the potential to swell with weight gain or shrink with weight loss.

Q: If you could give your patients one piece of advice on how to best care for their skin, what would it be?
A: “Establish a good skincare regimen, no matter how modest, because consistency is what will transform your skin and keep it looking its best. There is no quick fix!”
Q: Jen, what is the #1 thing that people falsely believe about caring for their skin?
A: People think that because they’re indoors that they don’t need sunscreen. But they do! Driving, entering/exiting a building, and indoor lighting can deteriorate skin cells every day. Everyone needs sunscreen, as sun is the major culprit in premature skin aging.”

Is Liposuction with a Brazilian Butt Lift right for you?
When liposuction removes fat from the body, it can be used to sculpt a more desirable shape in the areas that may need more fullness. Learn more below!
Ultrasonic Liposculpture of the Body with Fat Transfer to Buttocks (commonly known as a “Brazilian Butt Lift” or “BBL”) is an effective way to safely eliminate stubborn, disproportionate fat and relocate it to an area that could use more volume.
Ultrasonic Liposculpture of the Body with Fat Transfer to Buttocks
Patients that undergo this procedure are left with more aesthetically pleasing proportions. Even if you were to gain or lose weight in the years following your surgery, you’ll still retain the beautiful proportions for the rest of your life.
The liposculpture procedure with BBL is performed through tiny incisions in the natural folds of your body, so your results will be the only thing people notice!
Who is a candidate?
This procedure is ideal for patients that want to minimize the appearance of stubborn fat in their neck, arms, abdomen, hips, trochanteric area (“saddlebags”), thighs, knees, calves and ankles. The BBL portion of the procedure is ideal for patients that are noticing a lack of fullness in their buttocks, or those who just want additonal curves.
What does the procedure entail?
Your surgery will most likely take place under a light general anesthesia. Your surgeon will make small incisions surrounding the area you wish to treat. Then, a small ultrasonic wand will be placed into your incision. Your surgeon will gently direct the wand to the areas you’re treating using a violin motion. The ultrasonic wand will effectively eliminate a portion of your fat cells. Then, these fat cells are removed through the wand via a gentle suction. Once your fat cells are removed, the fat is spun in our centrifuge machine so that only the healthiest, viable fat is used. Then, your fat is gently injected into the areas of your buttocks that have a lack of volume.
What kind of recovery can I expect?
Most patients that have had this procedure are showering at day 2 and driving at day 3 or 4, provided they aren’t still taking recovery medications. You will feel some tenderness in the treated areas, and will most likley be wearing compression garments under your clothing for the first 4-6 weeks following your procedure.

You have probably seen the pictures on Instagram: Kim Kardashian or Bar Rafaeli with blood splattered all over their face. As part of this new revolutionary skincare treatment called the Vampire Facial®, growth factors and healing agents derived from your own blood are used to actually stimulate cell turnover, rejuvenate and repair your skin.
Bar Refaeli & Kim Kardashian Receive the Vampire Facial® Procedure
So, why the blood on the face? In order for a Vampire Facial® to be performed, we first must source the valuable PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) from your blood. This is the key ingredient that causes the repair and rejuvenation of your skin. The first step is a quick blood draw. Next, the blood is spun in a centrifuge to isolate the PRP – the good stuff.
An Esthetician or RN will then perform microneedling on the entire face and subsequently apply the PRP to the skin.
Here is where our MediSpa office is different than most – our facials don’t look bloody. The reason being is that we use a very high grade centrifuge to spin the blood, the type that is used in orthopedic surgeries. Also, we spin the blood twice in order for the red blood cells to completely separate from the PRP, leaving us with what we call “liquid gold” – pure PRP with no red blood cells left in it.
When we apply the PRP after microneedling, it appears clear instead of bloody. Although you won’t look like Kim Kardashian on Halloween, we can assure you that the pure PRP you will get in our office is superior to any other you will find.
For more information regarding the Vampire Facial®, please visit our Vampire Facial® page or call our office at 925-736-0401.
Get general Ultherapy® questions answered, below. For more in-depth information and a personalized Ultherapy® treatment plan, schedule a consultation.
What is Ultherapy®?
Ultherapy® is a non-surgical ultrasound treatment that counteracts the effects of gravity on your skin. Ultherapy® uses the body’s own regenerative response to gently and gradually lift skin on the eyebrow, under the chin and on the neck, and smooth lines and wrinkles on the décolletage.
What is unique about Ultherapy®?
Ultherapy® is the only non-invasive treatment cleared by the FDA to actually lift skin. Ultherapy® is also the only cosmetic procedure to use ultrasound imaging, which allows practitioners to see the layers of tissue targeted during the treatment to ensure the energy is deposited to where it will be most beneficial. With the addition of the new Ultherapy® Décolletage Treatment, Ultherapy® is also now the only non-invasive procedure specifically indicated by the FDA to improve lines and wrinkles on the chest.
Can Ultherapy® replace a face lift?
Ultherapy® treats the deep foundational layer addressed in cosmetic surgery, but won’t duplicate the results of a facelift. Ultherapy® is a great alternative, however, especially for those not ready for surgery or for patients looking to extend the effects of cosmetic surgery.
How does Ultherapy® differ from laser treatments?
Ultherapy® uses sound energy – tried-and-true ultrasound – which has unique properties that allow it to bypass the surface of the skin to treat depths not matched by any other non-invasive cosmetic device. Ultherapy® ultrasound stimulates collagen production in the skin’s foundation, resulting in a clinically significant lift of tissue over 2-3 months.
Lasers rely on light energy, which cannot reach deeper skin layers at an optimal temperature, so laser treatments typically only treat superficial skin and are not FDA-cleared to lift skin. Since the two technologies often treat different types of skin issues, they’re actually very compatible.
How does Ultherapy® stimulate the creation of collagen?
Ultherapy® deposits focused ultrasound energy deep beneath the skin at the optimal temperature for collagen regeneration. The treatment jumpstarts a natural process, known as neocollagenesis, to produce fresh, new collagen. Ultherapy® doesn’t involve any creams, fillers or toxins; it just relies on your body’s own collagen-building process for natural, noticeable results.
How long does an Ultherapy® treatment take?
The length of the treatment will depend on the area being treated and your individual treatment plan. A face and neck procedure typically takes 60-90 minutes, while a chest treatment takes approximately 30 minutes.
Will I need to take time off?
With Ultherapy® there is no downtime. After your procedure, you can resume your normal activities immediately, without having to follow any special post-treatment measures.
What does the Ultherapy® treatment feel like?
As the ultrasound energy is delivered, you will feel tiny amounts of energy being deposited to precise depths, indicating that the collagen-building process has been initiated. Comfort levels vary from person to person, but the sensation only lasts while the ultrasound energy is being delivered.
When will I see results? How long do they last?
After your Ultherapy® Treatment, you may see some initial effect, but the ultimate results will take place over 2-3 months, as your body naturally regenerates collagen. Since the procedure stimulates your own collagen production, how long the results last really depends on you. The treatment produces new collagen on the inside, but your natural aging process will dictate how long that translates into visible results on the outside.
How many Ultherapy® treatments will I need?
Most patients only need one treatment. However, based on the degree of skin laxity, the biological response to ultrasound energy and the individual’s collagen-building process, some patients benefit from additional treatments. Because skin continues to age, future touch-up treatments can help patients keep pace with the body’s natural aging process.
Are there any side effects?
The skin might appear flushed at first, but the redness should disappear within a few hours. Some patients experience slight swelling, tingling or tenderness to the touch, but these are temporary in nature. Other, less common post-procedural effects may include temporary bruising or numbness on small areas of skin.
Who is a good candidate for Ultherapy®?
A good Ultherapy® candidate has mild to moderate skin laxity where the skin begins to feel and look less firm. Examples include a lowered eyebrow line, loose skin on the neck, sagging under the chin, and lines or wrinkles on the chest. Of course, the best way to find out if you’re an Ultherapy® candidate is to schedule a consultation.
Who is a candidate?
This procedure is perfect for patients that want to get rid of disproportionate fat deposits along their jawline, chin, and neck. It is proven to be most effective in patients with good skin elasticity, as their skin will contract after the fat has been removed. The procedure will not help tighten skin, but it is remarkably effective for getting rid of stubborn fat after diet and exercise have failed.
What does the procedure entail?
During the procedure, your surgeon will numb the area and make a small incision underneath your chin. Next, a special saline solution will be applied to help numb and shrink the blood vessels. This way, your surgeon is able to minimize your bruising. Finally, a small wand (about the diameter of a q-tip) will be gently inserted into the incision. This ultrasonic wand transmits sound energy that eliminates the fatty tissue on contact. Once the fat is liquefied, it’s removed through a gentle suction process to achieve ultimate contouring.
What kind of recovery can I expect?
Patients should be prepared for swelling of the chin area, along with possible residual bruising. Your surgeon may instruct you to wear a head wrap for the first 7-10 days to help your jawline look as contoured as possible for your final results. Patients are encouraged to maintain a healthy diet and exercise often to ensure the longevity of their results.

What is Microblading?
Microblading is a procedure to dramatically improve the full and natural appearance of eyebrows. Considered semi-permanent makeup, Microblading uses very fine needles to “etch” each individual brow hair into the skin, leaving an incredibly realistic and natural look.
How long does it take?
The first Microblading session will last between 2 and 3 hours. This session involves choosing the brow shape, style and color to meet the client’s goals. The procedure will begin once we have a clear, mutual understanding. The next session will be a follow up session about 4 weeks later for touch ups.
How long does it last?
Depending on skin type, Microblading typically lasts between 18 and 24 months before beginning to gently fade. Touch ups are recommended about every 12 – 18 months to maintain the desired look.
How is Microblading performed?
Microblading is done using a hand tool that is outfitted with a single use “blade” that scores the skin for the pigment to be deposited in the skin.
Does Microblading hurt?
Most individuals classify Microblading as a low to moderate discomfort procedure, although each individual may experience a different level of discomfort. Topical anesthetics are used before and during the procedure to ensure your comfort.
What is the recovery for Microblading?
After your microblading session, your brow area may appear pink from the procedure and the pigment will look darker. In the first few days, the color will start to set in and skin will be restored to normal.
Where do I start?
Microblading requires a consultation before the procedure to make sure we clearly communicate all information about the process and customize the procedure to you.
